Local History Collections
Local History collections, including Quincy local authors and genealogy collections, are located in the Richardson Building of the Main Library.
Guidelines for Use
- Local History materials are available for in-library use only.
- Materials are only accessible during hours that the Richardson Building is open. Please note that these hours may differ from regular operating hours of the Main Library.
Special Collections
Archival and Special collections are located in the Quincy Room at the Main Library. These collections are closed stacks repositories, and available to access by appointment only.
Guidelines for Use
- To access materials, researchers must comply with access rules as outlined.
- Materials are available by appointment only, and for in-library use only.
- A photo ID will be held while materials are being used.
- Researchers may take photographs of materials with respect to copyright and permissions.
- Photocopying of materials is allowed at the discretion of ASC staff.
- Additional research assistance must be scheduled in advance of appointment.

To locate historical obituaries featured in Boston, you can search the Boston Public Library’s Obituary Database. The Obituary Database indexes obituaries appearing in the Boston Evening Transcript (BET), Boston Globe (BG), and the Boston Herald/Herald American (BH) from 1932–1941 and 1953–2010.
