Quincy 400 x Literacy 40 Celebration!
Friday, September 19, 2025 | 10 AM – 12 PM
Richardson Building, Main Library, 40 Washington St. Quincy, MA

The City of Quincy proudly marks 400 years of rich history, community, and culture since its settlement in 1625. Known as the birthplace of two U.S. Presidents, John Adams and John Quincy Adams, Quincy has been at the forefront of shaping American democracy and innovation. This milestone is an opportunity to honor our past, celebrate our present, and envision a bright future together.

Join the Celebration! During this Quincy 400, join us in celebrating International Literacy Day AND 40 years since the establishment of the Thomas Crane Public Library’s Literacy Program! We’ll celebrate with music, light refreshments, snacks, and sweets. Alumni, current students and volunteers, and newcomers are welcome! Newcomers can also join us in learning about how to volunteer, become a tutor, or join as a student.

We will also be conducting drop-in, 5-10 minute mini oral history interviews as part of the Quincy Legacy Project where you can share your experience in the TCPL Literacy program and or your life in Quincy! For more information, contact [email protected]

The Literacy Program at the Thomas Crane Public Library has been providing free one-on-one tutoring in basic reading and writing to adults on the South Shore since 1985. Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts-Quincy is one of 12 LVM programs in Massachusetts and an accredited affiliate of the national network of ProLiteracy America.

“While working with you I learned more from your story of struggle and success than I ever learned from reading a book. You are my inspiration.” — E.K.
