In August 2026, Overdrive (Libby app) released an update that should make it easier for users to discover titles owned by other Massachusetts library networks. Users should begin to see the notification about Lending partnerships, and users’ partner libraries should begin to update.
Libby Lending Partnerships
TCPL is a member of the Old Colony Library Network. OCLN has lending partnerships with other Massachusetts library networks via the statewide LEA / RLA program. Lending partnerships in Libby are similar to interlibrary loans at physical libraries where you can borrow titles from other libraries in the same network.
If your home library has a lending partnership, here’s how it works in Libby:
- You’ll see a “Partner Libraries” list in the Menu. You can borrow titles from these collections automatically using your home library card. If you wish, you can visit and browse these partner libraries directly using this list; you don’t need to re-enter your card number or add a separate card.
- When browsing, Libby automatically shows the best availability for titles from all of your saved libraries, including partner libraries.
Resolving Libby Invalid ID Error
Following this major Libby update, users began reporting experiencing “invalid library card” error messages when accessing Libby. To resolve this error, users will need to remove their card(s) from Libby and then add them back in.
To remove a card in the Libby app:
Under the Old Colony Library Network header, you should see your library card number. Select Manage Cards.
To re-add a card in the Libby app:
Re-enter your OCLN library card account details.
NOTE: You may notice some of your borrow titles have disappeared from your shelf. Go to your history and they should be there to check back out!
